Whether you are from Michigan or planning to travel to the state, there are many beautiful destinations to explore in the springtime. If you are searching for inspiration, here are some of my favorite places in Michigan to visit in the Spring.

- Mackinac Island: Known for its historic charm, horse-drawn carriages, hiking trails, kayaking, bike riding, and stunning natural beauty. And one of my favorite activities, trying the homemade fudge. Mackinac Island is a must-visit in spring when the lilacs are in bloom.
- Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore: Experience the beauty of Lake Michigan’s shoreline, towering sand dunes, and lush forests as they come alive with wildflowers in spring. Do not forget your camera. The hiking trails, dunes, and shoreline are perfect for photographing nature.
- Tulip Time Festival in Holland: Celebrate Dutch heritage. Walk through the rows of vibrant tulips. The annual Tulip Time Festival is May 4-12 this year with a carnival, Pickleball tournament, Historic Walking touring, Artisan Market, Tall Ship Dockside Tours, and much more. I love watching the Dutch dancing. They even give lessons.
- Traverse City: Explore the cherry blossoms in bloom, indulge in delicious local cuisine, and enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, biking, and wine tasting in this picturesque city.
- Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore: Witness the breathtaking cliffs, colorful sandstone formations, and cascading waterfalls along Lake Superior’s shoreline as nature awakens from winter. Go on one of the Pictured Rocks or glass bottom boat tours. I did both. I loved every minute of the journey.
- Detroit: Discover the Motor City’s cultural attractions including museums, art galleries, and urban parks.
- The Upper Peninsula (UP): Pack and cooler, grab your camera, and take a scenic drive through the Upper Peninsula. Visit charming towns like Marquette and Munising, and marvel at the beauty of waterfalls, rivers, and lakes. Do not forget to try a pasty, a Michigan tradition.
- Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park: Wander through acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, featuring spring blooms and stunning sculptures, in Grand Rapids. The butterfly exhibit is a wonderful experience too.
These are just a few highlights of the many incredible places to visit in Michigan during the spring season. Whether you are seeking outdoor adventures, cultural experiences, or simply a peaceful retreat in nature, Michigan has something to offer for every traveler including lifetime residents like me. Happy travels!
