25 Days of Christmas Trees: Day 2–Hotel Edison

When I was in New York last week, I stayed at the Hotel Edison. The hotel is beautiful, clean, and the staff was very friendly. I took this photo of a Christmas Tree in the main lobby. The Christmas tree is gorgeous.

The Hotel Edison is located in the heart of Times Square in New York City. It is a historic Art Deco-style hotel. The hotel has been a prominent fixture since its opening in 1931. Designed by architect Herbert J. Krapp, the hotel reflects the glamour and innovation of the early 20th century.

Key Points in its History:

  • 1931 Opening: The hotel was named after Thomas Edison, who famously turned on the lights in Times Square in 1882. It embraced his legacy of innovation. Edison himself reportedly flipped the ceremonial light switch during the hotel’s grand opening.
  • Art Deco Architecture: The hotel’s design features characteristic Art Deco elements, including intricate moldings, geometric patterns, and vintage lighting fixtures.
  • Cultural Significance: Over the decades, the Hotel Edison has hosted numerous celebrities, dignitaries, and events. Its proximity to Broadway theaters made it a popular choice for performers and audiences alike.
  • Film and Television: The hotel’s interiors have been featured in various movies and TV shows. This has made it an iconic part of New York’s cultural landscape.
  • Renovations and Updates: While preserving its historic charm, the hotel has undergone several updates to modernize its facilities. It blends classic elegance with contemporary amenities.

The Hotel Edison remains a symbol of New York City’s enduring appeal. It bridges the gap between its vibrant history and dynamic present.

Until next time…safe travels.
